Koala Crusaders Creative Community Crowdfunding
(Note that the HIGHEST DONATION is gifted the Koala Crusaders DoodleJam Canvas)
We are now raising $10,000 as phase 1 of our 10,000 tree planting project. We will run another two crowdfunding campaigns in the next 12 months to raise our target of 10,000 trees for $30,000. The current 3 canvas panel DoodleJam painting will expand to 6 and then to 9 canvas panels representing more trees; as the the Koala tree planting project grows the DoodleJam painting will grow!
We are nearly at 30% of our $10,000 target, so please help us plant 10,000 trees by donating today! Our wonderful local business community have also offered rewards to people who donate, please browse through the rewards on the right hand side.
Please help "Save Our Koalas!"
Hi! I am Meghan Halverson, President QKC Inc. on the Sunshine Coast of Qld. Australia!
I am here today to tell you about our organization and our DoodleJam Creative Community Crowdfunding Official Launch Event which was held on the 5th September at the Noosa Arts Cafe (The NAC). The event brought our local Community together to start a crowdfunding campaign to raise needed funds to plant 10,000 trees for koalas!
Koalas Are in Severe Distress and need urgent help if they are to avoid extinction in the wild –“While we are talking, they are dying!”
Wild koala numbers have dropped over 80% in recent years and localized extinctions have already been seen in many areas. The two major challenges are the impact of human development and disease. This is compounded by the lack of connection between remaining groups preventing free movement for diet and genetic diversity.
We think that we can change this by planting more trees and connecting more habitat.
In 2012 we founded Queensland Koala Crusaders to be a “Voice for Koalas”. We reasoned that humans had created the problem and only humans could help the koala survive our impact on their world. We work to connect the dots – bringing together all the resources and expertise to find and implement solutions that are best for the wild koala.
Our ultimate goal is to help create protected areas and connecting corridors that provide sanctuary and allow the koala to thrive and regenerate – areas that would also help maintain the quality of the air we breathe and the water we drink – and support the 1000+ plants and animals that live in the forests under the wild koala!
There is an urgent need for facilities, staff and training to support koala rescuers, carers and long term rehabilitation areas for sick and injured koala. These facilities can also provide the opportunity for much needed research into koala genetics and disease prevention in collaboration with University and Government Research.
Will you help? The need is today. Join us and help be a part of the solution!

Q: Who is the Queensland Koala Crusaders Inc. (QKC)?
Queensland Koala Crusaders Inc is an incorporated association dedicated to improving koala conservation outcomes. Its mission is to be “a voice for the koala”. Formed in August 2012 following the organisation of the 1st Sunshine Coast Koala Summit held in Noosa, the Queensland Koala Crusaders team believe in the value of a grass-roots approach to koala conservation – those who are closest to the problems are also arguably closest to the solutions. The group’s combined experience in koala conservation – including rescue, rehabilitation, science and advocacy - spans more than three quarters of a century. We work collaboratively with others. We are a volunteer based organisation doing “What is Best for Koalas”.

Q: Who will plant the trees?
Trees will be purchased and planted with advice from our supporting organisation Noosa District Landcare (NDLC).

We will ensure the planting site is suitable for a sustainable koala habitat connection precinct.

Q: What will happen if QKC raise more than the campaign target?
If more than $30,000 is funded, we will continue to support our Sanctuary Fund in order to purchase land for future plantings or for contributed fund matching in collaborative koala conservation projects
Q: What is the difference between a ‘Donation’ and a ‘Pledge’?
A: A donation is the gift of money to a cause, without expectation. A ‘Pledge’ – in the crowdfunding context – is the donation of money with the expectation of a reward – even if is a token reward - in return.
Q: What is a ‘Pledge’?
A: In the crowdfunding context, a pledge is money donated to cause, and in return, the ‘pledger’ receives a ‘reward’ in return. This can be in the form of goods or services, and is not necessarily intended to represent the value of the ‘pledge’, bearing in mind that it is to raise money for the cause.
Q: Where to the pledge rewards come from?
A: The pledge rewards are gathered by the crowdfunding campaign, donated their supporters, benefactors and the community, to be utilised to raise funds.
Q: If I Pledge money towards a Pledge Reward, am I guaranteed to get it?
A: Yes. It is not an ‘auction’ or a ‘raffle’, is is a reward provided in exchange for a donation.
Q: If I Pledge money, will the money definitely be deducted from my card/account?
A: Yes. DoodleJam Crowdfunding Campaigns are ‘Flexible’, meaning that that ALL donations and pledges are taken from your Account in real-time, even if the Campaign does not reach the target amount, with the money going to the cause.
Q: What happens once the Campaign Target has been Reached?
A: DoodleJam Crowdfunding Campaigns are typically run for a period of 35 days. Being ‘Flexible’, whether the campaign target is under-funded, fully-funded or over-funded, the Campaign will continue to run the full 35 days. Campaign targets are usually set by the ‘cause’, in order to fund a particular project. If the target is not met, they will have to seek the remainder of funds from other sources.

If the initial target amount is exceeded, then the ‘cause’ will allocate the excess funds to another project within the same cause.
Q: Is my Donation or Pledge tax-deductible?
A: This depends upon the cause being supported. Donors and pledgers would have to contact the individual organisation directly in order to ascertain this information, and obtain a tax invoice if applicable.
Q: What happens to the group painting after the DoodleJam event?
A: The group painting is a key element of the DoodleJam Crowdfunding Campaign. All participants are encouraged to invite their (social media) ‘crowds’ to pledge and donate to the cause, and the highest pledge or donation received, will receive the painting*. *The cause retains the ‘rights’ to the image of the painting, to be used for marketing purposes.
